Artist - John Okulick

I was reminiscing about my days in Southern California and thinking about some of the artists I had seen that had an influence on my work.

I first saw Okulick's work at "Professors Choice" a show at Montgomery Gallery at Pomona College. Norm Hines then the sculpture professor at Pomona had invited him. The piece to the left (from coagula.com) is very similar to the ones I saw way back in 1981. The playfullness of the forced perspective in his pieces really grabbed me. The craftmanship is top shelf as well.

I followed his work by seeing it mostly at the Asher/Faure Gallery in Los Angeles. It was great to see that he is still working and being recognized for his work. He is certainly an artist that not everyone knows about, but should.

From the Richard Gray Gallery.
