More Field Work
I have really started to get into "humpy fever"! Humpy is of course the nickname for a pink salmon as they get ready to spawn. The males get a pronounced hump on their backs and a hooked snout. This one is a male around 3 pounds which seems to be the going size for them this season. It was a really nice and bright specimen. Though this is not tiny, they typically are a bit bigger than this. Pinks are on a two year cycle, that is, they live for two years before they spawn. In Washington they span only in odd numbered years, so 2016 there will not be a season. Get them while you can!
