Brian Ranson Ceramic Musical Instrument Artist

One of the most talented artists I've had the pleasure to be associated with is Brian Ransom. He creates stunning musical instruments with clay.

Brian occupied the studio next door to mine when we both attended the Claremont Graduate University in Claremont California. I learned much about both ceramics and music from him through the many sometime late night converstions I had with him.

Brian is a gifted ceramicist, but coupled with that is his ability to write music to complement his instruments and then play them. This was complicated due to the fact that Brian lost a couple of fingers to an accident early in bis career. Quite amazing!

Brian is a professor of art at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg Florida.

His website can be found at: www.braincransom.com

"Whistling Water Vessel XV" . Brian's whistling water vessels are stunning. Water is poured into the vessel and the instrument is rocked back and forth to play. As water rushes from one chamber to another, a haunting sound is created.

An installation of bells.

A ceramic standup base.

I believe this is a "Nest of Whistles"
