A little more insight about Roland Reiss' Unapologetic Flowers show at the Claremont Museum Art. Another show is at Diane Rosenstein Gallery as well.

Here is a link to the review at What the Butler Saw -An Arts Magazine, an online arts magazine I just recently discovered.

One of the museum's Pollocks was being cleaned and restored and they decided to use one of the galleries for the process. A great idea!

A couple of early works on paper were included, and some great visuals in large digital printed vinyl on the wall as well.  Opposite this famous image of Pollock painting was a monitor with the famous documentary of Pollock creating some of his works. This is the film with the camera man below Pollock and he is splatteri...

While it is always a pleasure to view a single Mark Rothko piece, it is especially satisfying to experience a room full of them, and the MOCA does not disappoint.

I didn't get shots of all of them, but as you can see, there are a number of benches to sit and contemplate these works and installation. The photo looks empty here, but it was a bit crowded the day I attended. Perhaps an early morning visit might allow you to view this in a bit more intimate setting...

It had to be  probably 25 years or more since I viewed the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.  In fact, I had never been to the downtown space, on the Little Tokyo space. This is the space that is basically across the street from the Frank Gentry designed Disney Music Hall.

I was treated to a display of Joseph Cornell assemblages in the first room I entered.

A little better view of some.  There are a number of Cornell pieces around Los Angeles, but...

My Alma Mater, Pomona College has begun, well actually is more like in the middle of construction of a new museum of art. After much haggling with the city of Claremont, and moving one of the historic houses on the site, construction is well on its way.

The northeast corner of the site

Still a lot of concrete to be cast.

The architects rendition of the museum posted at the site.

Here is a better rendering from the Pomona College website.

 Around a year ago the...

I was quite lucky that my recent trip to Claremont coincided with Roland Reiss' reception for Unapologetic Flowers.  I haven't seen Roland in probably ten years so it was good to see him and catch up. There was quite the CGU reunion during the opening at Claremont Museum of Art on April 7th.

Husband and Wife team of Gary Geraths and Joyce Hesselgrave going through the catalogue of the show with Roland.

Here are some of the Unapologetic Flowers.  The blue p...

With all of the build up to this great 3 venue show, it unfortunately worked out that I will be in Southern California for the Thursday night art walk opening. I can't tell you how much I was looking forward to attending this.  I'll see it when I return of course. Fortunately, I am attending an opening for Roland Reiss titled; Unapologetic Flowers and Small Stories, at t...
