I completed one and all recently. This is the seventh piece of the and/or series.  It is acrylic on wood and is 3" x 14" x 22".

I employed some new painting techniques to bring out the scales on the rockfish.

This month's artwalk had some highlights worth mentioning

Artifact Gallery had an installation of automotive pieces, all of which seemed to be panels from mid 1970's Pontiac Firebirds. Fueled Spirit is a show by Seattle artist Duffyleg. Pictured is a photo of a 1:1 scale model car kit. The concept is kind of fun, but I've seen it before (try the horror section of the EMP).  Still it is work seeing and I especially like the Firebird hoods all of which include...

I have really started to get into "humpy fever"!  Humpy is of course the nickname for a pink salmon as they get ready to spawn.  The males get a pronounced hump pn their backs and a hooked snout.  This one was a male around 3 pounds which seems to be the going size for them this season.  It was a really nice and bright specimen. Though this is not tiny, they typically are a bit bigger than this.  Pinks are on a two year cycle, that is, they live for two years...

I figured that I needed a little field work so I've been out the last two mornings fishing for pink salmon in the Puget Sound.

This morning I landed a small pink salmon from the shore at Lincoln Park.  (Makes up for the one I lost yesterday) Kinda combat fishing as there were probaby 150-200 people fishing at that site.  I caught it in the first 5 minutes I was there!  Probably should have packed up and left while I eas ahead, as I did not get another strike....

One of the personal highlights for me was seeing this piece by Nortwest artist Marie Watt at the PDX Comtemporary Gallery Booth.

This is a bronze casting that stands around 10 feet high and is compost of small portions of blankets that have been folded and stacked.  Marie draws from her native american heritage and other references to create here work.

I saw a full sized peice of hers at the Seattle Art Museum a few years back - perhaps during the Picaso show....

Just a few more pieces I found of interest at the Seattle Art Fair a week ago:

I enjoyed these paintings by Scott Fraser ath the Jenkins Johnson Gallery  of San Fransisco and New York.

Seattle's Roc La Rue Gallery has some fun work as well.

Long time friends Gary Geraths and Joyce have a show opening tonight August 8th at the Bunny Gunnar Gallery space at Taylor Junction in Joshua Tree California.  Joyce, Gary and myself all attended the Claremont Graduate University in the mid 1980's.  Gary teaches at Otis Parsons and Joyce at Cal Poly Pomona.  Great people, great work!  Check it out if you're in the area.

It took me a week or so longer to finish Each and Every.  I've been little by little relying on my airbrush less and less for certain elements, in this case the copper rockfish in the center of the piece.  this is the first element in a work that I even underpainted and worked the layers from there.  Below are some quick

Occasionally you get to see one of "arts greatest hits", in this case a Louise Nevelson assemblege.  I believe it was at the Forum Gallery booth (of New York).

This is "Night Zig Zag" from 1966.

It was kind of a surprise to walk into the fair and have this be one of the first pieces that I saw.  Thanks!
